Join the resistance
The typeface I chose for the pin and packaging is DDC Hardware, designed by Aaron Draplin. (Available at Lost Type Co-Op). It feels strong, functional, readable, utilitarian, and timeless, not trendy – perfect for a protest item.
For the backing, my vision was the classic fist up, symbolizing resistance and holding a protest sign. This is an image many of us have seen at multiple marches including the 2017 Women's March.
The yellow accent is a particularly energizing color.
After going back and forth with a few sketches, the client decided on a simple rectangular shape, with a strong black background letting the natural gold metal of the pin shine through. She liked the subtle reference to Star Wars with the outlined block text, a nod to the geeky culture of the office environment she works in.
